Jay-Z Live at Glastonbury 2008

Jay-Z top billin' performance at the Glastonbury Festival, 2008
[Part two below]
Jay-Z answered his detractors in commendable fashion at the Glastonbury Music Festival in Britain on Saturday.
The rapper took to the stage – with a guitar over his shoulder – and sang a rendition of Oasis’ hit song “Wonder Wall.” Noel Gallagher of Oasis, a rock band from the UK, has opposed the rapper headlining the huge event since it was announced in February of 2008.
Jay-Z was greeted with cheers from Glastonbury festival-goers, who sang “Wonder Wall” with the Brooklyn-bred rapper. He quickly spun into his rock flavoured “99 Problems,” which lyrics boast “I got 99 problems, but a b***h ain’t one.”
Beyonce Knowles, Jay-Z’s wife, attended the event and was noticeably excited as she watched her spouse perform, according to sources with AllHipHop.com.
“The world should be all about mixing culture,” Jay-Z said to UK radio personality Tim Westwood. “Hip-hop is music in its art form. It should be accepted and respected. It’s all the same thing, it’s just coming from a different perspective.”
Normally, Glastonbury caters to rock music, but organizers recruited Jay-Z in an effort to attract a younger demographic. Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher was the most vocal critic and said, "I'm not having Hip-Hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong."
However, throughout the festival, expressed a very different sentiment towards Jay-Z than Gallagher.
Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro, another headliner, paid tribute to their Hip-Hop counterpart. The band played a version of Jay-Z’s hit “99 Problems.”
The Gossip's Beth Ditto praised Jay-Z’s presence for elevating the festival, despite slow ticket sales.
"I'm so jealous of you, camping to see Jay-Z," Ditto said during The Gossip’s show. "Seriously, I'm so f**king jealous. Jay-Z: guilty of making this festival good."
The Glastonbury Festival is held on Worthy Farm near Glastonbury in Somerset, England over 800 acres. The festival began in 1970 with about 1,500 people.
The festival nearly sold out, moving about 142,500 tickets.

Obie Trice Leaves Shady Records

Detroit's Obie Trice has left Shady Records after eight years and two albums, AllHipHop.com has confirmed today (Jun 30).
He is currently working on his third album, while solidifying a new situation for his own imprint.
Obie and Shady were moving in different directions,” the 30-year-old rapper’s manager Terry Wilson tells AllHipHop.com. “But he still has a great relationship with Shady Records. He has some big plans for his World Wide Hustle label.”
Currently recording his third album while solidifying his label situation, Trice has released a track explaining his decision to leave the label with which he attained a considerable amount of respect and success.
While a source at Shady confirms the split is amicable, the new song, “The Giant,” indicates that Obie’s complaints may have been with parent company Interscope.
“I murdered e’ything when I wore the Shady logo,” he spits after announcing there’s no more Shady.
“O is a mogul/Low on the totem pole ‘cause Interscope’s loco/Now I’m gettin’ mo’ dough.”
Following a personal introduction to Eminem via D12’s Bizarre, Obie Trice joined the Shady Records family in 2000 and was introduced to listeners outside of Detroit on the supergroup's 2001 début Devil’s Night.
His own RIAA-certified gold début Cheers came two years later, with a follow up, Second Round’ s On Me released in 2006.
Continuing with the theme of his two previous releases, Trice’s third album is tentatively titled Bottoms Up.

Jay-Z at Glastonbury. Stickin' it to Oasis
Crossing borders into the world of rock festivals, Jay-Z staged one of the strongest hip-hop performances in recent years as he tore down detractors and told the gods of rock, "I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one!"
Mr. Carter ended the bullshit saga between himself and Oasis' Noel Gallagher who detested the appearance of Jigga and hip-hop at the predominately rock line-up at the British Glastonbury festival. Guitar strapped, BK Marcy swagger, Jigga Man entered the festival stage with a smirking rendition of Oasis' gem, "Wonder Wall". The crowd not only accepted him but joined him in the Gallagher hook. Peep game.

DJ Scratch Walks Away From EPMD

After over 20 years of being the backbone of the legendary EPMD, DJ Scratch has announced a shocking split from the group.
In an exclusive interview with Allhiphop.com, Scratch detailed the circumstances that have led to the current rift and why he will not be participating in any form, on the group's forthcoming album and shows.
"I had been finding out through my peoples that Erick [Sermon] and Parrish [Smith] have been doing shows and recording an album without me," Scratch explained to AllHipHop.com. "Then I'm getting emails from fans telling me that Erick said on stage I'm not there because ‘I'm missing flights.’ And I'm like 'c'mon E that's not f**king cool.' I've never missed a flight in my whole career."
As with many groups, Scratch stated his absence from the group’s reunion stems from money issues.
"Erick doesn't want to split the money three ways," DJ Scratch claimed. “And that's fine, but be a man about it. We're supposed to be a crew. Don't lie and make me seem incompetent and disrespectful to the fans."
EPMD is one of the most consistent groups in Hip-Hop history, with five successive gold selling albums from 1988-1997, and such classic singles as "It's My Thing," So Wat Cha Sayin'," "Rampage," and "Crossover."
Fans know this is not the first time the group has had a public dispute, as the collective split on acrimonious terms in 1993.
According to Scratch, despite a reunion those tensions remain unresolved.
"I'm cool with both of them [but] with the first breakup, Parrish was the problem and now after the reunion, Eric's the problem. They don't like each other but with any group [when] the members don't get along, you just don't see that s**t. When you're on stage you're not supposed to show that s**t because you're there for the fans."
EPMD's new album will have no cutting, scratching, or production contributions from DJ Scratch, who since his days in the group has produced for a number of artists, including 50 Cent, Jay-Z, DMX, Talib Kweli, The Roots and numerous others.
Since the other members have not made an announcement, Scratch feels it is only fair to the fans and his reputation to clarify the situation.
"If the album came out and I 'm not on there, the obvious question will be 'where's Scratch?" he reasoned. "I think the reason they've not said anything is they know the fans wouldn't be f**king with them like that without me. It's like Run DMC without Jam Master Jay, we're a three member group. Eric has the money issue, but I don't think he realizes he'd make more money together than apart."

Still, despite the alleged professional betrayal Scratch, is open to working with Smith and Sermon in the future.
"This is only permanent if they want it to be that way," Scratch said diplomatically. "I make more money on my own than with EPMD. I came back with them for Hip-Hop and the fans, money isn't an issue for me."
In the meantime, Scratch will being doing a collaboration album with fellow boardsmith DJ Premier.
He'll also be producing on upcoming albums from Busta Rhymes and LL Cool J.

Suge Knight Officially Loses Death Row
Infamous music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has officially lost ownership of Death Row Records, as he lost his appeal against a ruling forcing him to sell off all assets from the defunct label.
Knight, who first filed for bankruptcy in 2006 following the company's downfall, was ordered by a California judge in May to liquidate the label at an auction this month. He was in court Tuesday arguing against the order, but his motion was denied and the sale pressed on. The auction included the rights to the label’s back catalogue, which contains such classics as Dr. Dre's The Chronic, and various tracks from Snoop Dogg and the late Hip-Hop legend Tupac Shakur.
The highest bid in the auction came from Global Music Group owner Susan Berg, who bid $24 million for the lot, according to TMZ.

Nas Interview... Answers Up

From SPIN magazine, God's Son is interviewed over the last financial year and last album to latest project.
You gotta give Nas points for trying. After a year in which he caught flak from Bill O'Reilly for participating in a benefit, saw his nemesis turned label boss Jay-Z leave Def Jam, and shot a failed reality show with his wife Kelis, the 34-year-old Nasir Jones lost his long, contentious struggle to name his ninth album Nigger, replacing the title at the last minute. Presiding over a listening session at New York's Electric Lady studios, he's insistent that the controversy and its anticlimax were never intended to be a Molotov cocktail thrown for publicity's sake, but rather a creative rebirth from one of hip-hop's most consistent artists. The Lil Wayne Show

Lil Wayne's third studio album, Tha Carter III is on pace to break the platinum lid off of hip-hop, not popped since 50 Cent's follow-up album, The Massacre.
Despite pre-emptive internet leaks of the album, New Orleans' own self-proclaimed greatest emcee is expected to sell in excess of a million units of his latest album. Billboard reports predict sales could mark the milestone by the close of the Neilsen SoundScan tracking week on June 15th.
The last time hip-hop had an album sell platinum was G-Unit's 50 Cent's sophomore joint, The Massacre released in March 2005 which sold 1.1 million units.
Latest numbers on Tha Carter III recorded unit sales at 630,000 on (June 12) thus becoming the largest seller on the SoundScan Friday Building chart since its opening in September. Previously similar results came from Kanye West's latest studio album Graduation from Roc-A-Fella/Def Jamwhich shifted 600,000 units by Friday of its release. Graduation closed with 957,000 copies sold in its opening week.
Tha Carter III officially reached store shelves on June 10th and has already garnered the singles chart success of "Lollipop", and follow-ups, "A Milli" and "Got Money". Another memorable Jay-Z collaboration on "Mr. Carter" also highlights the bestseller.
The Cash Money/Universal album was named the "#1 most anticipated album of 2007" by XXL but due to internal schedules, the release was delayed until 2008. This is set to cap off the Carter Trilogy for Lil Wayne.

Ice Cube Talks New Film, 'Janky Promoters'

Ice Cube is reuniting with director Marcus Raboy and comedian Mike Epps for the new flick “Janky Promoters,” it was announced today.
The trio helmed the last film in the “Friday” trilogy, “Friday After Next.” “Everybody Hates Chris” star Terry Crews will also join the ensemble cast.
“Janky Promoters” follows Cube and Epps, a pair of shady concert promoters who get in deep trouble when presented with the chance to book a marquee hip-hop name for a big show. The big name will actually be a rapper, but the deal hasn’t closed yet, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“[The movie] is cut from the same stone as “Friday,” Raboy said in a statement. “It’s definitely new characters and a new world here, but it’s of the same vibe. It’s gonna be grounded but colorful. We’re not trying to do broad comedy; we’re trying to do comedy with an edge.”
Cube will produce the film alongside his Cube Vision partner Matt Alvarez.

MC Eiht Classic Throwback Video
Nas to Release "Untitled" Album July 15.

Nas will release his new "Untitled" album July 15.
"It's important to me that this album gets to the fans," Nas said of his newest project. "It's been a long time coming. I want my fans to know that creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages. It's that important. The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it."
In advance of the untitled new album, which will be issued on the Def Jam/Jones Experience imprint, the first official single will be "Hero," produced by Polow Da Don.
Over the past few weeks, two tracks from the album have been leaked: "Black President" (produced by DJ Green Lantern) and the album's closing track "N.I.G.G.E.R. (The Slave and The Master)" (produced by DJ Toomp), containing the provocative lyric, "They say we N-I-double-G-E-R/ We are, much more/ But still we choose to ignore the obvious/ Man, this history don't acknowledge us/ We were scholars way before colleges..."
One of the albums tracks is "Fried Chicken" featuring Busta Rhymes, produced by the Grammy winner for Producer Of The Year, Mark Ronson. "Fried Chicken," finds Nas and Busta mixing metaphors over a throwback Ronson track.
"When I was young, sitting in my room hammering out beats on my MPC, Nas was one of those truly legendary artists that you daydream, 'One day, I'll get to do a track for...,'" says Ronson. "We finally met Grammy night in LA, and he said he wanted some stuff from me for the album. I started thinking to myself, as a Nas fan, 'What kind of beats would I love to hear him over?' That's how the Dapkings and I came up with the track for "Fried Chicken", and I reckon it sounds like a stone cold classic."
The untitled new album will also include collaborations with producers Stic.Man from Dead Prez, Jay Electronica, Stargate, DJ Cool & Dre, and others.

Warren G Walks Free of Dope Charge

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has dropped drug charges against Long Beach rapper Warren G according to reports.
The rapper set the record straight about reports of his recent arrest in an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com.
Warren G., born Warren Griffin, was arrested in Hollywood around 2:00 am on Sunday (June 8). The driver of the car, Ryan Butler, was stopped for allegedly running a red light. Officers found Butler was driving with an expired license and upon searching the vehicle, Los Angeles police officers discovered an undetermined amount of marijuana and cash in the trunk of the vehicle.
“I was a passenger, I wasn’t driving," Warren G. told AllHipHop.com. "And we didn’t run a red light. We just happened to be in a long line of traffic on Hollywood Boulevard and got caught in the intersection. The whole thing was bogus."
When Warren, as the passenger, was unable to provide officers with details about the origins or ownership of the drugs, both he and Butler, 29, were taken into custody and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell. They were released approximately eight hours later on $20,000 bail each. Warren G. is set to appear in court on July 3 to face the charges associated with the arrest.
“From what I’m hearing, what they said at the police station, it wasn’t even an ounce,” Warren G. revealed to AllHipHop.com. “They basically was just f**king with me because I’m Warren G. and they just wanted to get the publicity for arresting me.”
The Grammy-nominated is currently working on his sixth solo album, The G Files which is due out in September.
He expressed disappointed at the local media’s eagerness to report negative incident, one of the few in his 20-year-career.
“It’s not right,” Warren lamented. “They haven’t looked at the positive things that I do, like going down and talking to the kids in gang prevention programs. They don’t look at the things I do, like going down to the juvenile halls and talking to the kids. I do a lot of positive things. So for them to even say that I had marijuana is bogus. I could see if I had done something, but I didn’t do nothing.”
Warren G.’s current project is the Warren G Music Studio and Learning Center, a new program he is establishing with the city of Long Beach.
The facility will serve as an alternative to the loss of music curriculums in many area schools.
The Center will be housed in a space donated by the city of Long Beach, which will provide students the resources to not only master the instruments of their choice, but to also learn about production and the various career opportunities in the entertainment industry.
“I’m trying to get involved with the schools, ‘cause they’re cutting a lot of the music programs,” Warren G. told AllHipHop.com. “So I wanted to be able to open up the doors so kids can come and learn the saxophone or the piano, or learn to engineer and learn Pro-Tools. You know, or learn about being a manager, learn about publishing. Just anything you would want to know about music.”
An opening date for the center will be determined once Warren G. and Long Beach officials have settled on a location.
The first single from Warren G.'s upcoming album The G Files is titled “Ring Tone.”

RZA's WuChess.com: a Hip-Hop Chess Community

Wu Tang's RZA, also known as Robert Diggs, is bringing chess online with a new subscription chess site called WuChess.com
Here's how the site describes itself:
"WuChess.com is the worlds first online chess and Hip-Hop community. You can create and share profiles with your friends and triumph over enemies on the 64 squares. Not just against people in your neighbourhood but from all over the world... Play live chess with people from all over the world and get your learn on...
At Wuchess.com you can log-on to watch chess clans do battle on and check out exhibition matches with Rza, other Wu-Tang members and stars from across the planet. Though I'm acquainted with "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'," I did not realize that RZA was a chess enthusiast.
The site costs $48 a year, which doesn't seem entirely in the spirit of giving back to the community. You should at least be able to play free for a month in order to get hooked.
I am in the process of securing a guest membership and will report back from the chess chambers.

Evidence Found at 50's Dix Hill Crib
Police found a five-gallon gas container on the grounds of a mansion at the center of a dispute between 50 Cent and his ex-girlfriend.
On early Friday morning, a fire ripped through the $2.4 million dollar Dix Hills, Long Island mansion, sending 6 people, including Tompkins and the superstar rapper’s 10-year-old son, to the hospital.
While arson investigators have yet-to-determine the cause of the inferno that completely destroyed the mansion, officials had already labelled the fire suspicious, due to the intensity of the blaze, which lasted about 45 minutes.
Tompkins, who accused 50 Cent of having a role in the incident, also accused the rapper of not checking on his son Marquise in the incident’s aftermath. "Tell him to call his son!" Tompkins shouted at reporters yesterday when she returned to grounds of the property, where she had been living with their son, her new boyfriend and other individuals.
50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson and the boyfriend were involved in a physical confrontation in the office of Tompkins’ lawyer during a deposition hearing, just days before the house was destroyed.
The rapper, 32, denied any involvement in the fire and expressed gratitude that no one was serious injured in the fire.
50 Cent and Tompkins will be in Manhattan Supreme Court over ownership of the mansion on June 10.
