Cover: Jay-Z Towers Over New York [XXL]

Nearing the packaging stage of Blueprint 3, Jay-Z stands over New York on October's XXL cover and interviews for the hip-hop magazine in a campaign for his 11th album due out soon. Mr. Carter hits on many topics that see him in headlines. Included with BP3 talk and new singles, "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)” and “Run this Town,” his Presidential run of Def Jam and being a business, man in the world of hip-hop and out. Some cut-outs from the entire piece below:

CRITICISM OF “D.O.A.”

“I’m not hating on young people. Like, when people say that, I’m like, What are you talking about? It’s just stupid. I’m not hating on young people… I’m not Bill Russell, [saying] Michael Jordan ain’t shit. I’m saying Lil Wayne and Kanye are like LeBron and Kobe. My job as someone at the forefront of the game is to leave it in a better position than when I came in. Same way that Russell [Simmons] left it to me. ’Cause this thing saved my life. Literally. So I have a responsibility to it karmically. And after that it’s on you. I did my part. I made ‘D.O.A.’ I said it. I made the statement. I made the push. Here, y’all take it from here.”

HIS LEGACY AS FORMER DEF JAM RECORDS PRESIDENT

“So if you ask me to grade my performance as the president, I’d say A-plus. No one can bat a 100. It’s impossible. I mean, everyone is looking at my shit. But if we really looked under the hood [of] every single [record exec] and the acts they put out in that time, I’d be comparable to anyone.”

HIS STANDING IN THE GAME

“But when I say I’m the best, I don’t say that outta my ass. I say that with all my stats behind me. I put that against anybody. I mean anybody. I really believe that… I believe in a lot of things.
I believe that ‘SportsCenter’ is the best thing on TV. I shouldn’t have to prove it. But I do have these stats to prove it. I’m talking about real run. I’m not talking about years off. I’m talking about straight—boom, boom, boom—back to back. We’re not talking about heritage acts either. We’re not talking about respect what I’ve done. I’m talking No. 1 [albums] 10 times. The Beatles is the only one [to have more
No. 1 albums]. They got 19, and if I get a surge of creativity, I could make nine albums next year.”

XXL’s October issue includes stories on The Making of The Blueprint, the current state of lyricism in hip-hop, Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II and much more. The mag hits newsstands September 15. -Marvin Brandon

Film: Crips & Bloods: Made In America

Taken from makeshiftrecords.ca/blog -

Stacy Peralta has produced two of the best documentaries “Dogtown and Z-Boys” and “Riding Giants,” exhilarating, informative works with reverence for the cultures (skateboarding and surfing, respectively) they chronicle. With the sobering “Crips and Bloods: Made in America,” Peralta goes outside subjects of personal expertise, tackling the gang war that has long convulsed Los Angeles’ African American community. The documentary film does paint a rather long history of this area of Los Angeles including immigration during Second World War, both riots and the civil rights struggles. The documentary is well shot with great music and narration by Forest Whitaker and a nice selection of both interview subjects and ideas. You very well may learn something and you cannot help feel for those that have senselessly suffered from the violence. With out much of a solution given, despite the enforced gang violence-prevention sequence, not much of an impression is left that anything will improve with the gang warfare. As one Crip makes the observation of, “It is what it is.” A bloody, chilling fact!?

Rare: "I Can’t Get with That" by Jay-Z

" I Can’t Get with That" by Jay-Z (Released as single with In my lifetime)

Lyrics:

Chorus: Jay-Z (repeat 2X)
I can’t get with that
I gotta keep it thick never miss so I hit em like this

Straight to the track, my lyrics is phat, I rip it the hell — down
More than a fluke, I’m regularly wreckin this joint so what — now
With so many niggas that’s biting it’s harder to detect who I be
Well check out the J, check out the A, check out the Y, Z
Original rap, I’m makin' it slap, I’m hemmin' it up like that
Stingin' it, strikin' it, swingin it fat, * DJ reverse * bring it back
I be that nigga with a gat, boom-clack
Don’t ever sweat it when I go, I zoom back
Better than ever, never better, you better, whatever
I suggest the Ex-Lax and that’ll get your shit together
I give you a snotty nose from body blows
Nobody’s safe at a party even Gotti goes adiós
I got-got-got Flav-flav-flav-flavour, so save yours
One verse and it’s a hearse, I played and I slayed yours
Get it, got it, ready to flip, I doubt it
No need to prolong, check out the man gone, haha

Chorus

The next, player, never get no rest, you’re livin' with stress
Cause just around the corner beez the best player
You’re fearin' my clout, if weed got you runnin' your mouth
You better blow that shhhiiitt out
The Jigga’s back, you brothers are flat
I’ll amaze the way that Jay rap, now how in the hell did he say that?
You diggin' me, the, epitome of, rippin' it raw
You kiddin' me, no artist that rap, gettin bigger than me
Although these cats are wettin' my style, I’m still thirsty
And we all gotta fall off, but you first G
I’ll be the last, it’ll be a, cold day in hell
before you see me, Sauce and Jaz, chillin' with your wack ass
We make hits, and harmony, like Take 6
While you brothers double pumped up them fake hits
Our Roc-A-Fella never Sell-A-Out
Brothers who don’t have the heart, you better tell your mouth, uh

Chorus

Ha-hah
This how we do
All year round, this is how it goes down
Now check it out

I don’t kick it I punt it, I’m so wicked you want it?
My tongue is tired from lickin' my fingers and countin' up hundreds
So I bought a money machine and it goes
A tat-tat-trrrittaat-tat-triiatttt-at-tit-tit-tit-dough
How many styles I gotta kick to prove I’m def?
I can even-hah-kick my-hah-rip that shit-hah-and catch a breath
You can’t see this, ask this nigga Dash
Now he don’t count cause I’m makin' him mad rich
This nigga’s nothin' but the truth
Many view Jay-Z as a threat to they loot.. so
my thing is tight, can’t slip, gotta grip
like a pit in a dog fight, yo, I’m a-iight
I ain’t checkin' for you ‘less you my peoples
And just in case you didn’t know peep the — steelo
It goes, one dime for your mind
Two bone crushers for your spine
Cause none of ya game is rougher than mine

Chorus: repeat 2X

Ha-ha... Jay-Z... Live in the ninety-five
with a little help along, c’mon
Sauce Money definitely representin
Big Jaz in the house
Superman production type shit

C-Murder Sentenced to Life

Cory “C-Murder” Miller was sentenced to life in prison today after being convicted of second degree murder this week.

District Judge Hans Liljeberg gave Miller the mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole for murdering 16-year old Steve Thomas in 2002. This was the second trial in the case after his first conviction was overturned due to problems and motives of several of the witnesses.

After the sentencing, C-Murder's attorney Ron Rakosky filed a motion to be removed as the rapper's attorney and that he wouldn't be representing C-Murder for his appeal process. Rakowsky stated that he hadn't been paid by the brother of music mogul Master P.

C-Murder is already serving time after pleading no contest to two counts of attempted murder from a separate shooting in 2001.

Warren G On Nate Dogg's Stroke Recovery

Warren G recently spoke to HipHopWired about the status of his homeboy Nate Dogg who suffered several strokes over the past few years and was close to death several times. While no one in the Dogg Pound Gang has talked publicly about the tragedy, Warren said,

“He is recovering. He had two strokes. The recovery right now is slow but he is improving. I'm the only person that has seen him so far but he's doing good. He's recovering slowly but him having two strokes was deadly so it's a slow process.”

He also spoke of Nate's physical therapy process and him learning to talk and walk again, adding,

“Well you know with recovery like that, you gotta go through therapy and learn how to walk and all kind of stuff again so that's part of the therapy when having a stroke so that's' what it is. He has to go through a lot of therapy. It's a slow process but he's progressing.”

Warren will also be releasing his new album The G-Files on September 29th. The project features the new single “Swagger Rich” with the third member of 213, Snoop Dogg. The album will also include Nate D. O. Double G on the track “100 Miles & Runnin'” along with Raekwon. Going in a whole different direction from the N.W.A. classic, Warren also discussed the track and clarified that although Nate's on the hook, the song isn't dated.

“Nah those vocals weren't old. The vocals aren't old or the beat. None of that is old. That was done maybe like a year ago maybe, that ain't old. Maybe a year and a half. Right before he had the stroke, we did about 8-10 songs where he just did hooks and he was like whatever you want to use, go ahead. The record is definitely not old. It's a great record and Raekwon did his thing over a West coast track and he sounds incredible. Nate is always incredible on a track and the game needs that. We need his voice back in the game and I'm putting it down for him right now with that record. So people can hear that and be like ‘Damn, that's what we've been missing.' That's what we need from the West because he is one of the niggas that was helping the artist here by his hooks and his voice. But “100 Miles & Runnin'” is a totally different thing from the N.W.A. record. Ours is just talking about how we roll.”

The G-Files will also include collaborations with Ray J and RBX.

Shyne To Be Released From Prison Stretch

Shyne is soon expected home. A judge has recently set Shyne’s release for October, after serving eight years in prison.

Rapper, Shyne's career was tossed up by Rahman Dukes and Sha who contemplated his next move upon his release. Before he headed inside he was signed with Def Jam. Thoughts of heading to Roc Nation with Jay-Z are on the cards for the Brooklyn hard-head emcee. Rah says the Brooklyn connection could be unbeatable, seeing that Jay’s reach and influence is so vast.

From Sha:

I see it a little differently. While you cannot argue that anything associated with Young Hov will be successful, I’m thinking of Shyne partnering up with another heavyweight: Kanye West. Yes, Kanye.
Kanye is arguably the best producer in the game today. Shyne will have a helluva story to tell, he has the credibility and hopefully his flow will still be intact. Lyrically, he told me five years ago that he’s written 10 albums in prison. All he needs are some beats. There’s no producer in the game right now whose track will make a more beautiful marriage with Shyne’s vocals. Me and Rahman also look forward to Just Blaze, Swizz Beatz and Cool & Dre working with Shyne if we had our wish.
Check out the video for the full conversation.

Video: Game // Exclusive Interview // Dubcnn

The Game // Exclusive Video Interview // Dubcnn by: Lil Jay

Dubcnn caught up with The Game for an exclusive video interview. We sat down with "the kid with no home" at two different stops during his world tour for a 2-part feature.

He is already heavy into promoting his upcoming record "The R.E.D. Album" in new songs, recent interviews and video blogs, but for part 1 of the feature we take some time out to talk about his life on the road and travelling through Africa and Europe. We also cover a couple random topics and find out which song he relates to the most from his whole catalogue and why he never featured any of his Black Wall Street artists on his albums. Last but not least, Game expresses his opinion about fans getting involved in his beefs.

You can watch the video or read the transcript of this exclusive interview and we urge you to leave feedback on our forums or email them to liljay@dubcnn.com.

Stay tuned for part 2 of the interview coming soon!

Transcribed interview below:
Dubcnn: Dubcnn has linked back up with The Game! What's up Game?

The Game: You know what the fuck it is man, it's Game time, Starface, the kid with no home. That's what it is, West Side, California, West Side Bompton, Cedar Block Piru, still on probation and everything. Straight up, Dubcnn.com. Get loaded motherfucker, the number 1 Hip-Hop site in the world, Dubcnn. All the fakers and imitators eat a dick!

Dubcnn: So, if you're looking back at all your three albums and you had to pick out one specific song from your whole catalogue, which is the one that you can relate to the most?

The Game: "I Don't Need Your Love" off The Documentary, because it's been 7 years since I've started and today I'm still here. For all the motherfuckers that don't got love for Game, I don't need it. I still get by, I still make my money, I'm still rich. I'm still the father of two kids, they're happy, they're good. I'm financially stable, all my homies is good, they're shining. That's just what it is. I don't need shit, I don't want shit. Get it how I live. I reached all my goals on the first album. I never ever thought that I'd be anything other than a dead gangbanger. So here I am, half way across the world. I go to Switzerland to perform in front of 2000 people. It just feels good to be a hood nigga that made something. My whole career has been a memorable moment. Everything that I've done, everything that I will do, every place that I been, all the people that received me and appreciated me. It's all been a memorable moment, just my career as a whole.

Dubcnn: You always separate your Black Wall Street business from your solo projects, since there werent any BWS artists on any of your albums. Do you keep that balance on purpose or what's the thought behind that move?

The Game: When one of my Black Wall Street artists gets big enough, then I will feature them on my album. But until then they gotta grind the mixtapes like I did. You know, get in where you fit in. But I got some shit planned for them, it's gonna get real big. But I got Goon, a cat from Inglewood. He reminds me of myself as far as his hardcore flow. You know, Clyde Carson from the Bay is doing his thing. X.O. from Pasadena is doing his thing, Juice is still in Arizona holding it down. We got a young kid named Elijah. So we got some things on the way. It's just me and my brand, but I give people that I meet and have ambitions and dreams like I did opportunities to make a name for themselves. And if they can use my parent company to branch off and do their thing, then more power do them. I don't want nothing from them, I just want them to get money and have a good time man.

Dubcnn: You made some tour stops in Africa too. Talk about that experience, since most people will never get the chance to see that continent.

The Game: Africa is the real hood. Everybody think they from the hood, but you don't know how real life is and how fucked up people got it until you go to some of the 3rd world countries in Africa. Specifically speaking about Kinshasa in Kongo and stuff like that. The people are great and beautiful, you know, they look like me and they represent what I represent, which is the struggle. I appreciate them and I can't wait to go back man. Africa is a wonderful place. You know, I leave gaps in my music and then my fans fill it in. When you get the crowd participation when you're rapping and they're feeding the music back to you, and you look in the crowd and you can see everybody saying every word, that's how I appreciate my fans, and I know they appreciate me.

Dubcnn: You also have a pretty strong fanbase in Europe. What are some of your favorite places when you go overseas?

The Game: [I love Dublin, Ireland and Zurich, Switzerland]. I love Switzerland to death man. The shit's crazy, always when we're in Switzerland, I ask Tony 'How many days we're in Switzerland?' and he's like '1 Day', then I'm like 'Fuck!', cause we'll go to some other town where I don't wanna be for fuckin' 4 days! I got nothing but love for Switzerland and the people. I stay in different hotels, this time I was at the Marriott and my view is always over the river and the city, and in the daytime it's just beautiful man.

Dubcnn: Speaking of fans, what's your opinion when your fans take sides in your beefs?

The Game: I don't give a fuck about that man. Any beef that's gonna be a beef of the time that people gonna talk about, those are the beefs I get involved in. I don't got time for the petty shit, cause when I see those rappers, we just knock them the fuck out and then we make sure it's on camera so everybody can see how bitch made they is! I ain't gotta say no names. They try to challenge me, but I'm one of the only rappers in the world that's never been tested like that, I never had a chain snatched. So anybody that steps to anybody in the Black Wall Street finna lie straight on they motherfuckin ass, that's all they can have.

Audio: "Warning" Shot By Eminem To Mariah & Nick

"Warning" by Eminem (Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon Diss) (Produced by Dr. Dre)

This has ruffled the feathers of Marshall, as he cocks his weapon and lets off his warning shot to Mariah Carey and new husband, DJ Nick Cannon. From her "Obsessed" video, Eminem got mad and put venom to the mic. peep the lyrical onslaught here. From 16 to 34 bars, just for the fuck of it:

Only reason I dissed you in the first place is because you denied seeing me
Now I’m pissed off
Sit back and relax homey, kick back and relax, grab a six pack while I kick facts
Yeah Dre’s sick track, perfect way to get back
Wanna hear something wick wack?
I got the exact same tat that’s on Nick’s back
I’m obsessed now
Oh gee, is that supposed to be me in the video with the goatee
Wow Mariah, I didn’t expect her to go balls out
Bitch, shut the fuck up before I put all them phone calls out you made to my house when you was wild n out before Nick
When you was on my dick and give you somethin' to smile about
How many times you fly to my house? Still trying to count
Better shut your lying mouth if you don’t want Nick finding out
You probably think cuz it’s been so long if i had something on you I woulda did it by now
On the contrary, Mary Poppins, I’m mixing our studio session down and sending it to mastering to make it loud
Enough dirt on you to murder you
This is what the fuck I do
Mariah, it ever occur to you that I still have pictures?
However you prefer to do and goes for you too, Nick, faggot
You think I’m scared of you?
You gonna ruin my career you better get one
Like I’ma sit and fight with you over some slut bitch cunt who made me put up with her psycho ass over 6 months and only spread her legs to let me hit once
Yeah, what you gonna say? I’m lucky? Tell the public that I was so ugly that you fucking had to be drunk to fuck me?
Second base? What the fuck you tell Nick, punk?
In the second week we was dry humping. It’s gotta count for something.
Listen, girly. Surely you don’t want me to talk about how I nutted early cos ejaculated prematurely and bus all over your belly, and you almost started hurling and said I was gross, go get a towel you’re stomachs curdling. Or maybe you do.
But if I’m embarrassing me, I’m embarrassing you and don’t you dare say it isn’t true.
As long as the song’s getting airplay I’m dissing you.
I’m a hair away from getting carried away and getting sued.
I was gonna stop at 16. That is 32. This is 34 bars. We ain’t even a third of the way through.

Damn, Slim. Mariah played you. Mariah who?
Oh did I say ”whore”, Nick? I meant a liar too.
Like I’ve been goin' off on you all this time for no reason.
Girl you out ya alcoholic mind. Check ya wine cellar. Look at the amounts of all the wine.
Like I sit around and think about you all the time.
I just think this is funny when I pounce you on a rhyme.
But fuck it now i’m about to draw the line.
And for you to cross it that’s a mountain that I doubt you wanna climb.
I can describe areas of your house that you wouldn’t find on an episode of Cribs
A blow below the ribs if I hear another word so don’t go opening your jibs cos every time you do it’s just an overload of fibs
I ain’t saying this shit again, ho. You know what it is.
It’s a warning shot for before I blow up ya whole spot
Call my bluff and I’ll release every fucking thing I got
Including the voicemails right before you flipped your top
When me and Luis were tryin’ to stick two CD’s in the same spot
(Slim Shady I love you)
I love you too
Let me whisper sweet nothings into your ear, boo. Now what you say?
(It’s nothing)
Guess what I’ll do?
I’ll refresh your memory when you said ”I want you”

Now should I keep going or should we call truce?
(You think you’re cute, right? Hahaha)
You bet your sweet ass I do
(I’m Mary Poppins, b)
And I’m Superman, mmm
(Mary P. Slim Shady)
Comin’ at you
So if you’ll still be my (babygirl)
Then I’ll still be your (Superhero, oh my Em.)
Yeah, I’m right here
(You like this)
Nope. Not anymore, Dear.
It cuts like a (knife) when I tell ya get a (life)
But I’m movin' on with mine
Nick, is that your (wife)
Well tell her to shut her mouth then I’ll leave her alone
If she don’t (sing this script?) then I’ma just keep goin
(I see Mary Ann. Mary Ann’s saying ”cut the tape, cut the tape”. Knife!)
