Glastonbury Wants Snoop Dogg For Next Festival

Controversial rapper Snoop Dogg is being lined up by Glastonbury organisers for this year's 40th anniversary festival, according to a report in the Sun newspaper on Tuesday (March 16).

The rapper, who has been banned from entering the UK by immigration authorities since an altercation involving his entourage at London's Heathrow Airport in 2006, has recently been allowed to reapply for a visa.

Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis is reported to have said his daughter Emily -- who books many of the acts for the Somerset bash is keen to get Snoop -- saying, "She's a bright girl and she is very keen on Snoop Dogg doing the show, so we want him."

The news the rapper is potentially appearing on the bill could lead to criticism from some of the festival's rock fraternity, in a similar vein to when Jay-Z was revealed as a headliner in 2008.

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher said at the time, "I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music and when they throw the odd curve ball in on a Sunday night you go, 'Kylie Minogue?' I don't know about it... But I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong."

Jay-Z played to rapturous acclaim in the end, beginning his set with a tongue-in-cheek slice of the Oasis track 'Wonderwall.'

The 2010 Glastonbury festival is now sold-out, and headliners are U2, Muse and Stevie Wonder.

Spinner contacted the Glastonbury press office but no comment has been forthcoming as yet.

Ice Cube Meets Dre, Snoop & Game for Detox

In light of recent hullabaloo over Ice Cube and his "Drink the Kool-Aid" joint, the west coast legend himself gave a statement explaining the intentions behind the controversial song. As well he spoke on reuniting in the studio with Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg and The Game and playing his part in the mythical Detox album.

From Ice Cube:

"What up fam,

I met Dr. Dre in the studio last night. When I got there Snoop was in the booth laying the finishing touches on another classic from the dynamic duo. He played me some tracks set for the up and coming Detox record and we talked about me jumping on board the project. Of course I talked about him doing shit on my record and he said he’d bless the album. The Game came through ready to spit but Dre just wanted every to vibe. It felt like old times when me and Dre would work on shit in Eazy’s cold ass garage.

He asked me did I diss him during the Paid Dues Show last Saturday. I did one of my new songs called “Drink The Kool-Aid” which got everybody thinking I’m dissing the whole industry…lol “You internet roaches…” I told Dre that I’d never diss the man that got me started.

No disses. Just style and grace. On another note, I rocked the fuck outta Paid Dues. I had my son Doughboy get down wit me while WC and Crazy Toones rocked France. I think people enjoyed the show. 20 years of West Coast hip-hop presented in 60mins. It was amazing. I can’t wait to put the new show together with all my new songs. I also dropped the single “I REP THAT WEST” on’em. They loved the new shit. The single and the video will premiere and be available right here on IceCube.com May 26th.

My nigga Sir Jinx laced my wit a dope ass track. I’mma do it wit Jayo Felony and WC. This record is coming together like sweaty ass cheeks…

No Q & A this time ya’ll. I’m in a hurry. I’ll answer all questions next time.

Keep It Gangsta - Cube"

Snoop Dogg Signs Cypress Hill to Priority Records

"It Ain't Nothin'" by Cypress Hill-

Earlier this week Snoop Dogg announced that he has signed Cypress Hill to the newly re-launched Priority Records.

“My role as Creative Chairman of Priority Records has put me in the driver’s seat to help revive the most important West Coast hip-hop label,” Snoop said in a press release. “As such, I’m excited to announce my first signing as Cypress Hill. Cypress Hill is undeniably one of the most important hip-hop groups in music history, not only are they incredibly talented and the first Latino hip-hop group to go platinum, they are also from the West Coast- so this signing is the perfect marriage.”

Snoop also expressed his desire to revive Priority Records’ classic catalog as well as sign new Left Coast artists to the iconic label. He’s already got the ball rolling in doing so with the USDA Uncut Snoop Dogg Approved album which he says will include, “ timeless records that… really need to be brought back to life again- Master P, Ice Cube, N.W.A.” He also wants to release The West Coast Blueprint a compilation album that he says will show what Priority is all about.

In the mean time, Cypress’ Rise Up, the groups’ first major release in six years, is scheduled for release on April 6. — Brooklyne Gipson

In a recent interview for FakeShoreDrive, Tha Doggfather raps about new album, Malice In Wonderland and working on Detox with the one and only Dr. Dre.

By Andrew Barber...

So speaking of Malice In Wonderland, the advance tracklisting (via Wikipedia) has some serious heavy hitters on board for it: Just Blaze, Timbaland, the Neptunes, Rihanna, Polow Da Don, etc. I know you’ve worked with a lot of these people before, but are you going for a new sound?

Actually (that tracklist is bogus). Other than the Neptunes, none of those people are on it. Danja, Nottz, The Dream, Soulja Boy, Scoop Deville, R. Kelly, Brandy, Pharrell, Problem, Terrace Martin, my nephew Nipsey Hussle, Jazmine Sullivan, Teddy Riley. I’ve got sum shit for you and I guarantee it’s gonna bang until the wheels fall off. Classic. Timeless. Great music.

Also on the advance tracklist I see that you have a song with Battlecat and Kokane. Will we be hearing more west coast influenced records from you on this release?

This is definitely a west coast banger and I’ve got more for you too. On December 8th you will be one of the first to hear how we bang. It has its Malice and its got its Wonderland. It's Snoop Dogg! You’ve got to do it, Jack!

Will you return to working with West Coast producers like Meech, LT Hutton, Jelly Roll and others you worked with earlier in the decade?

I'm always open to working with them again. They’re dope and I get down with dope artists. It's a no brainer.

What about the infamous picture of you, The Game and Dr. Dre in the studio supposedly working on Detox, that recently leaked to the internet. Any truth to that? What’s going on there?

It wasn't photoshopped - let's leave it at that. So just be on the lookout!

Are you going to be involved with Detox?

Is it Windy in Chicago???
